| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description This book is unique because it focuses solely on the teaching process, the skills and techniques that successful teachers use to make their classes more interesting and developmentally appropriate. The author integrates research-based information with first-hand experience to describe the decision-making processes used by master teachers in virtually every lesson they teach. Novice and experienced teachers will learn practical skills and techniques to help them, motivate children to practice, build positive feelings, minimise off-task behaviour and discipline problems and create an atmosphere of learning. This new edition also includes a guide to help the reader maximise learning, develop lesson content, use a problem-solving approach, observe and analyse, provide feedback and assess children's (and their own) progress. The video clips on the DVD illustrate key techniques and strategies from the text, using footage from actual gymnasium and playground settings to show real teachers in true-life situations. Readers will also benefit from chapter introductions and objectives, highlighted insights "from the trenches" about issues that teachers commonly face, reflection questions, chapter summaries and chapter references.

Become a better cross-curriculum teacher! January 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dr. George Graham's text "Teaching Children Physical Education (2nd Ed.)" is an excellent resource for all elementary teachers interested in becoming "Master Teachers!" The book is a logically-laid out, progressive tool that introduces excellent classroom management techniques and methods for integrating Physical Education into the rest of the curriculum. As a teacher, I found this book, and the accompanying CD-Rom, to be an exceptional value!
Great overview of pedagogy and practical applications. November 6, 1999 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
George covers the breadth of pedagogical content knowledge as it applies to beginning teachers in a comprehensive yet practical manner. All the basic, fundamental skills for beginning teachers to master are included. I have been using this book since 1994 with fabulous results. My students find its design easy to follow, its information straight to the point, and its development on target. I highly recommend this book for all entry level pre-service teachers.
