Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This book will help all principals create the best possible curriculum for their school's students. It examines four levels of curriculum--state, district, school, and classroom--and then explains how effective principals influence curriculum at every stage. The book is based on the following key, tested beliefs: * There is more than one correct way to create curriculum. * Curriculum development must be a cooperative venture among district leaders, principals, and classroom teachers. * Principals should be active leaders in curriculum development. Glatthorn shows principals how they can influence state development of curriculum frameworks. He offers guidance on advocating for district mastery core curriculum adoption and urges school leaders to begin making significant contributions to their schools' curriculum. The author offers examples of ways principals can incorporate curriculum leadership into their organizational behavior. Principals can start making real contribution to their schools' curriculum improvement by using everyday opportunities for curriculum emphasis. They can help focus their teachers on the importance of teamwork in creating school curriculum. Principals can develop "enabling behaviors" that make a schoolwide impact and use these behaviors to * Ease communication with teachers and students * Create an open, encouraging school climate where teachers are free to give input * Build a collective curriculum vision with staff * Be an effective and positive curriculum leader for their teachers Principals will find out how working with teachers can result in more meaningful curriculum for classrooms and raise the level of learning--and teaching--in their schools.

4 out of 5 stars Curriculum leaders   August 28, 2008
This was a good book. The topics were very helpful and covered things as an administrator you will need to know. I have also used this book in regular classroom review.

4 out of 5 stars The Principal as Curriculum Leader ?   March 10, 2007

Good resource - explains that principals don't often know that they should be a curriculum leader. One of their jobs is to keep abreast on curriculum - changes, effective teaching strategies, etc. It has been my experience as a teacher that many principals have no idea about what is being taught in the classroom. Some have no clue on teaching strategies to help best meet the standards.
