Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The story of the birth of Zeiss Ikon by the mergers of 1926; the resulting fantastic array of cameras in the Zeiss catalogue, followed by rationalization and development of new cameras, especially the Contax and other 35mm cameras, up to the outbreak of war in 1939. The final part lists Zeiss Ikon cameras from 1926 to 1939.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Probably the best available, but limited.   July 3, 2006

This book on the prewar Zeiss Ikon cameras is better than the book on the postwar cameras. However, it does try to put too much on too few pages, so you end up with too little information about a lot of cameras.

4 out of 5 stars THE source of information on pre-WWII Zeiss Ikon   July 12, 2004

There are many books on camera collecting, but only one, real source in English on pre-World War Two Zeiss Ikon cameras. This is it.
Written in a somewhat stilted academic style, this book is never the less filled with information on Zeiss cameras. The high-contrast illustrations are clear, but could have been larger and more detailed. Worse, there isn't any index! It is organized by date and so you have to know when the camera you are interested in was first produced in order to locate it's description. Clearly, the author meant this book to be read cover to cover and not to be used as a reference title to be consulted for a piece of information on one camera at a time.
Despite its flaws this is the best title on the subject in English. Recommended.
