Product Description
The Easy-to-Understand, Up-to-the-Minute Guide to UWB Technologies, Applications, and Markets Ultra-wideband's exceptional capacity and power characteristics make it one of this generation's most exciting technologies. From wireless communications to entertainment, and from the automotive industry to homeland security, UWB is poised to revolutionize an extraordinary array of applications. Now, one of the field's leading experts presents the most accessible and up-to-date UWB guidebook ever written. Dr. Faranak Nekoogar explains UWB principles and technologies simply and clearly, addressing key issues such as pulse generation, modulation, multiple access techniques, and interference. In addition, she presents a complete market analysis--identifying the most promising applications, initial and future markets, and regulatory trends. Ultra-Wideband Communications: Fundamentals and Applications will be indispensable for everyone interested in UWB technology, regardless of their radio frequency experience: engineers, managers, marketers, analysts, purchasing agents, business strategists, journalists, and students alike.Inside you will find *An introduction to UWB: history, background, advantages, and challenges *How UWB compares to narrowband and spread-spectrum wideband systems *Fundamentals of UWB short-pulse generation and propagation *Competing single-band and multiband approaches *UWB antenna concepts and their implications for systems and networks *Popular modulation/demodulation schemes and multiple-access techniques *Coexistence with today's WLAN, GPS, and cellular phone systems *Current and evolving FCC and worldwide regulation of UWB technology *In-depth coverage of UWB applications and markets, with adoption timelines and forecasts through 2010 *A comprehensive, easy-to-understand glossary and extensive references for further reading

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A must have book for introduction to UWB   February 11, 2007
Everything you want to know about UWB in a nutshell. The book covers a nice introduction to UWB, various modulation techniques, worlwide regulatory issues, UWB antennas, and UWB current and future markets at high level. Very good reference for management, beginners, undergrad students, and engineers new to this technology. Much easier to read than other available UWB books.

3 out of 5 stars overpriced book, relative to the amount of content   January 6, 2007

The publisher is well known for publishing many technical textbooks, with much detailed content on their subjects. Unfortunately this book falls somewhat short. The subject itself is quite topical. Ultra wideband communications offer promise in many areas. The analysis in the text is understandable to an undergraduate in engineering or physics. Nekoogar has attempted to reduce the subject down to the key concepts, and shows how ultra wideband differs from conventional communications. It is these differences that permit new usages.

The problem is the skimpiness of the total content. Relative to the $103 list price. You don't get much for that price. The book has the feel of something cobbled together to quickly fill a gap in the textbook marketplace.
