| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review No building in history has been more admired, or written about, than the temple of Athena Polias atop the Acropolis in Athen--the marble marvel we call the Parthenon. This book of essays is full of wonders and surprises. Did you know there is a full-scale replica of the Parthenon in Centennial Park in Nashville, Tennessee? Or that the Parthenon is the only Greek temple made wholly of marble? Or that the archetypal Greek monument was once used as a church (Our Lady of Athens), and later as a mosque? Or that Le Corbusier once compared the temple's sleek lines to a Delage automobile? Panayotis Tournikiotis, an architect and teacher at the National Technical University in Athens, has assembled a diverse, international crew of writers and architects to ponder and expound on this most beloved of ruins.
