Product Description
*Full of prompts and challenges to get the reader thinking in a different way, Out of Bounds is the first creativity-centered, how-to book on this topic

*Features 60 stunning sample pages to instruct and inspire scrapbookers

*In a 2006 survey at one of the premiere U.S. scrapbooking conventions, 41% of attendees surveyed said that the main reason they scrapbook is for the artistic/ creative outlet

Many scrapbookers see scrapbooking as their sole creative outlet--their chance to explore, grow and have fun. But these same people may feel confined by the rules of what scrapbooking is supposed to be, whether it's the shape of the page, the materials used or even the reasons why they scrapbook. In this book, two leading scrapbook designers show readers how to shake off these notions and create scrapbook pages and memory art that are free of rules and full of creative inspiration. Sixty unique and exceptional scrapbook pages are featured, each accompanied by the artists' challenge to the reader. Topics include playing with techniques, breaking rules, finding new motivation, and pushing the boundaries.

3 out of 5 stars Out of Bounds: Scrapbooking Without Boundaries   September 11, 2008
I think I enjoyed "reading" this book more than any ideas I might take away from it. The one author puts her printer through some serious abuse...I couldn't afford to replace my printer after what she suggests doing! Nice ideas for the very adventerous so the title does it justice.

5 out of 5 stars A must-see from two very talented women   December 22, 2007

I am a collage and card artist and have just started considering scrapbooking. In fact I was a scrapbooking snob until collage/scrapping a recent vacation into two books. Along with Out of Bounds I purchased "That's Life: Finding Scrapbook Inspiration in the Everyday and The Art of Personal Imagery: expressing Your Life Through Collage. I'm unhappy with "That's Life" and enjoy "Personal Imagery" but it's Torrey and Jodi's Out of Bounds that makes me want to really expand my art. These two woman really do have no boundaries in what they will try and their results are amazing; maybe not at first glance but when you really look at their art and subject matter and begin to break it down you, too, will be pleased. The way these two document personal tragedies in their scrapbooks is powerful; you want to know more about these two women and the people they journal about. But this is not to mention their techniques, and yes, I would like to see another book from them describing and demonstrating techniques. While some of the techniques are easy enough to learn on your own, there are some things that I haven't a clue about where or how to start. This book is well worth the money and I hope to see more from these women.

1 out of 5 stars should've known better   September 21, 2007

I really should know better than to buy a memory makers book. I never like them. I thought this was going to have great Ideas about scrapbooking outside the box, I now wish I would've bought the dares book. This book was Bor-ing. One page featuring a Layout, with the other page describing the layout with 2 paragraphs. The only thin I enjoyed were the quotes on every other page. It only took me about 20 min to read and study the layouts.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring Book   September 20, 2007

The layouts in this lovely book are definitely not ho-hum. I carried this book with me everywhere for several weeks because I loved looking at the exceptional pages. Very inspirational.

5 out of 5 stars Daring to be Different   July 9, 2007

Wasn't too sure about this book at first read through and my hesitation seemed to centre on the use of image software for a number of the techniques without a clear "how to" process clearly described. This is sheer laziness on my part as these things are easy to learn if I really want to replicate a technique.

It was the second read through that I began to feel that the title "Out of Bounds" wasn't just a reference to artistic rule breaking; it was the subject matter of the lay-outs that challenged the traditional approach to scrapbooking.

There were the holidays, the babies, the best friends pages, but there were also layouts recording the most real of life events...bereavement, loss, striving to meet the challenges of ill health and other challenging life experiences. An artistic celebration of survival and self discovery.

If you are someone who has an interest in scrapbooking all of life (its laughter and its heartache), I think you will appreciate this book.
