Product Description
With detailed discussions and eye-catching, dynamic images, this guidebook shows professional photographers how to masterfully create beautiful images of a model to achieve any creative objective. Instructions illustrate basic poses as well as a host of subtle variations to provide photographers with an endless array of looks for editorial fashion shots, athletics, glamour or nude photography, and shots designed to show curves, reveal personality, or showcase the hands, hair, or legs. This comprehensive resource also provides expert advice on conducting a successful session, how to work with the model, how to work with a support staff of image stylists, and tips for designing a high-quality portfolio. Additional lessons provide a start-to-finish analysis of four different shooting sessions, each with a different model and a different objective.

Full of practical tips and pearls July 14, 2008 Pros: Well written easy to read and follow. I learned a great deal regarding posing and composition, what makes a pose good vs not so good (which may differ depending on the photo shoot target customer / audience).
Excellent content on posing hands, head, shoulders and legs.
Good intro on how to pursue putting together a decent portfolio for both the model and the photographer.
Cons: Some of the photos were quite dated, struck me as being one or two decades old.
All in all, I am very happy with this book. Highly recommended reading for the aspiring portrait and event photographer.
Posing Techniques July 4, 2008 "Posing Techniques for Photographing Model Portfolios" is very much A repeat of Pegram's "Professional Model Portfolios: A Step-by-Step Guide for Photographers" You do not need both and I would recommend the step-by-step guide of the two.
very good start for creative portfolio model posing June 30, 2008 it goes much better into details and techniques for good start of creative model posing than any other book I had on this subject. It's really NOT about wedding poses against an old fashion backdrop or group family portrait posing in the garden.
Great technical source for photographers June 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is all about the finer points of posing a model. It covers hands, feet and other subtle things to make a good portrait a great one. After reading this I have noticed shortcomings in my own work and how to fix them. This book teaches the body language that is used in portraits and you will notice it in every magazine you pick up afterwards. You should see improvement after reading this resource.
Just So So for Depth and Learning May 19, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Bottom line - this book is just so so in terms of its depth and educational value. I noticed that many of the "instructional" sequences didn't line up with the images being presented and a number didn't have images to represent what was being taught at all. Maybe it's just me, but I'm a visual person, especially with posing, and cannot visualize a pose through reading about it. I have to see it. Call outs would have been nice to help pin-point the dynamics of the poses that were illustrated. I did get some basic value from the book, but not what I thought I'd get overall.
