Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A very helpful book.   February 14, 2005
One of the greatest problems with writing a book about underwater photography is that of equipment. Firstly, there are those specially made amphibious cameras - amongst which the only underwater SLR was not a huge success. Then we have the usual - and very extensive, range of ordinary surface cameras and their many different lenses of all shapes and sizes. Of course, none of latter work underwater - so we need an even larger range of housings and ports (windows through which the camera can see) to accommodate whichever system you are prepared to put together. Then, of course, we have the digital camera and we start all over again! So for those books claiming to be a complete guide to underwater photography - you know it just isn't possible.

Thankfully this author has a different approach to the overall subject and whether you have the most or least expensive equipment, there are lessons here to be learned by the amateur and professional alike.

Instead of getting bogged down with equipment that only this author possesses, Charles Seaborn discusses - with great clarity, the general topics which beset anyone attempting to take either the simplest or most complicated photograph underwater. The subjects of; Environmental factors, planning & technique, Equipment, lighting close-ups, medium angle lenses, wide angles and composition are al there and I defy anyone reading this book for the first time "not" to learn something.
