Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The serious amateur photographer often faces the problem that even after all the dollars spent on camera, lenses, computer gear, and software, the spending never seems to end. More gear is needed for studio photography, tabletop photography, flash photography, and for accessories here and there. And in many cases, the right accessories are not even available. That is where this book comes in. Low Budget Shooting is the one-stop source where you will find instructions and a shopping list on how to build an array of useful and inexpensive photographic tools.

Filled with full-color images and easy-to-follow text, this book shows how to build essential lighting and studio equipment; how to make the perfect light-table for shooting small objects; and how to build reflectors, soft-boxes, and light-tents that really work. It also tells where to get some of the little helpers that make a photographer's life so much easier. This clever little book is a creative and valuable resource for most any photographer.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty pictures, neat ideas   May 9, 2008
This book has some elegant DIY photography projects--various foam softboxes, diverse diffusers and reflectors. I made a simple softbox of my own after reading it, though not nearly as cool looking. Think of this book as providing more inspiration than practical instruction. The projects look very cool, but the actual "how to" isn't always terribly thorough--you're going to have to figure out a few things on your own. Nonetheless, I really like this book and keep going back to look at it. Maybe one of these days, I'll actually build something from it...

5 out of 5 stars Clever ideas for photographers with no budget   April 15, 2008
The ideas are great and workable, using materials that are easily available in any medium size town, plus there are some nice basic pointers for those who are new to photographic lighting.

4 out of 5 stars Balanced depth   January 21, 2008
This book has some really good ideas. I would recommend this book especially for someone wanting to improve their photos for auction sites.

Some of the ideas further back in the book seem to be useful to professionals. I liked the ideas about using kite making fittings for small lighting diffusers etc.

4 out of 5 stars Great Guide For Getting Great Effects CHEAP   January 9, 2008
'Low Budget Shooting: Do It Yourself Solutions to Professional Photo Gear' is a really short hardcover book at 50+ pages but that doesn't mean it's getting a bad grade from me, far from it. Beautifully designed with big, full color pictures throughout, the author provides lot of practical solutions to getting great shots at low low prices using household items and tricks of the trade. If you are a professional photographer you probably could get something out of this book but this is targeted more at the amateur to semi-pro (note that that doesn't mean the results won't LOOK professional) photographer.

Some of the negatives that might come from this book is that it's more a coffee table book made for perusing instead of learning from, but I disagree and feel that the package for the price is worth the investment. If you even use 1 trick in this book you no doubt will save the amount of money that you paid for this and I don't think that would be very difficult or hard to do for serious photo lovers.

Take a look at 'Low Budget Shooting', I think you will like what it has to offer!

**** RECOMMENDED

2 out of 5 stars Great Ideas... no implementation   December 22, 2007
This booked is jam packed with lots of great ideas for studio gear you can make yourself. Of course it's pretty much just ideas it horribly falls through when it comes to showing you any details on construction. If expanded with more construction details would be one of my favorite books, as it is best comparison I can think of is a cook book that shows you wonderful foods and a list of ingredients and leaves you to figure it out yourself.
