Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars In the thick of it with the 166th Photo Signal Company.   August 28, 1997

In a most unmilitary way, World War II Army authorities actuallyfound men with professional skills to become combatcameramen, instead of training farmers and mechanics in the usual fashion. The present work illustrates the wisdom of this strategy.
This particular unit, broken up into small detachments and spread among all of the Third Army's elements, was present at all the major engagements and events from Normandy to Prague, winning many decorations and leaving a legacy of striking images. A good selection of these are included, as well as some remarks and essays by the veterans of the 166th. That some reflect the fog of war and unreliability of memory in no way reduces the value and interest of the pictures and text here.
Highly recommended for military history readers, WWII buffs, and photography students.
