Product Description Showcasing 120 of photographer Gordon Thye's gorgeous, duotones, this coffee table book offers images that are sensitive, cheerful, aesthetic, and erotic. The photographs show a masterful use of light and shadow, with sharp and blurred focus that elicit a wide variety of emotions. The images include peaceful moments full of magic; stylized graphic compositions; surreal stage scenes; and erotic portraits of self-confident, young and beautiful women. With his aesthetically arranged poses, intentionally simple lighting, and an emphasis on the essential elements of design the photographer shows how little is actually required to achieve a great photograph.

Dynamic Images November 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This collection of black & white photography is quite impressive. Most of these photographs take on a dynamic quality with use of lighting and well thought out compositions. They almost take on a three dimensional quality. This is an above average publication on the subject.
I really give this 4.5 stars for the right audience.... June 23, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a very high quality book of mixed nudes and portaits. The cover photo is very representative of the types of shots you will find inside and the approach is from a fine art perspective. I particularly like the use of lighting and the emphasis on capturing gesture, volume and weight. Some of the poses are very creative as well and the book is printed on good quality paper. Artists and photographers will particularly like this book.
Well Done March 20, 2006 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
The images (all B&W), were well done technically as well as artistically. Overall I found the models to be natural beauties that were set in very interesting poses and locations. All the photos are large, full page spreads. As an amateur photographer I found this collection to be a great source of ideas and inspiration. This is an excellent addition to any collection of images of the human form.
For Those Who Appreciate Feminine Beauty February 22, 2006 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
These are mainstream, black-and-white nude portrayals of young Caucasian women. To read this, you might think the collection of photographs in this book is unremarkable. Having seen a range of photographs, I'd say this definitely registers above "remarkable." There is nothing outre' here--the only potentially unsettling picture is of a woman sitting on a toilet, herself appearing startled--and nothing pornographic. This is simply the beauty of women, and there is surprising variety in focus and display. There are close-ups of mouths and eyes, studies in light and shade, and nice facial details. I personally look forward to a volume like this that includes a variety of ethnic/racial portrayals, rather than being more "white women." However, these are excellent photographs, and this is the kind of book you'd like someone to see if you wanted to impress them with what good taste you have...though you might not want to leave it open to the shot with the toilet.
"Bared Females, Freckles, Innocence & Elegance" December 24, 2005 34 out of 39 found this review helpful
"Nudes And Portraits," Gordon Thye, NY Watson-Guptil (AmPhoto) Books, 2004 ISBN: 0-8174-5558-2, HC 119 pgs., plus 6 pg. thumbnails, & 3 pgs. on Author, 13 1/4" x 9 7/8"
An artist's presentation of 106 B & W photographs on 119 pages, nearly every one a full-page reproduction, about half given modest borders. Overall, the author's models are attractive, young & overtly sensual by either looks, pose, minimal props, or now and then clothing. Thye's photographs have exqusite detail, bespeaking use of larger format studio cameras - none bear the tiniest hint of snapshot photography, but there is marvelous, generally simplistic, lighting for mood & for textural detail of eyes, lips, hair & freckles.
Stats: 42 photos did not show hand/fingers; 3 showed finger rings; 2 had jeweled navels, 2 wore earrings & 1 a necklace. Visible tattoos were the exception (5 models): 1 deltoid & thigh, 2 back, 1 abdomen & 1 chest. High heels featured on 14 models, while 2 or more models shown together in only 3 photos save a few multiple exposure of same model. Out-of-theme were 3 contrived postures: 1 panty-bra, 1 toilet scenic & 1 sought pubic sanctuary with a cluster of grapes.
In summary: an exquisite collection of young while blonde & brunette models of unusual spunky genre generally lacking in tattoos, jewelry, clothing, baring mostly all & whose physical features generally included natural free-style long hair, pert breasts, supple lips, looks of innocence & a generous sprinkling of wholesome facial freckles worn with elegance in complimentary lighting whilst freed of austere posing. Except for eye makeup, candid beauty is unveiled with a minimum of contrivences. Here is a good example of feminine pulchritude, a modicum of erotic charisma freed of pornographic or "para-erotic" particulars. The paper, printing & binding are first class. An excellent addition for the coffee table.
