3 out of 5 stars Not a Book for True Beginners   December 7, 2001

This book is informative however, it is better suited for someone who already has some knowledge of audio recording and computers.

3 out of 5 stars Easier to carry than a pdf file.   April 27, 2000

EVERYONE who owns Cubase VST wants a printed manual as you only get an electronic one (pdf) with it.

This is a reasonable stab at it but it is the FAST guide and as such does not cover every single function and aspect of the program.

It is quite good for audio and explains the concepts and practicalities well. It is not so good for the MIDI side - you would want to look elsewhere for this.

It is definately worth buying just so you can learn about your favourite app away from your PC.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent! Finally A Cubase book for the technically inept!   October 21, 1999

This book is written in plain language, Milward has managed to enlighten Cubase users without assuming we already know it all. Although this book came out before cubase 3.7 it's still the best one out there and the only one I won't send back.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent - A must have!!   October 7, 1999

I only wish that I had a copy of this book before I printed out the entire software manual. It's written in an easy to understand manner that makes it enjoyable to read not to mention incrediably informative...Better than a cubase for dummies book could ever be!

4 out of 5 stars Very Stimulating and Technical   September 22, 1999

When you start to read the book, Simon gently immerses you into the VST world. Describes very useful short cuts using the keyboard (and also a few tips that aren't easily found in other reference materials). The project work takes you through the initial recording right through to mastering using an awful lot of the VST functionality. If you're like me and can't afford the usual electronic hardware that goes into the home studio, the VST FX and mastering techniques that Simon uses will show you that, with the right computer system, you can be very creative with what is available.

All in all, a well laid out book, which I keep constantly by the side of the monitor (just in case).
