4 out of 5 stars Good read   October 14, 2008

While not the best version of Beauty and the Beast that I ever read, this book is a good read in its own right. This book is technically part of the Elemental Masters series, even if it's not actually stated as so. Rose is a delightful character, a rare woman in Victorian society who wants more but is constrained to the rules set for her gender.

Her interaction with the Beast was appropriate given the circumstances, and this book was overall a good read with the action and dialogue. Please don't be turned off by the terrible cover!

5 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Beginning of a Series that Never Developed   July 12, 2008
While a fantastically new and unique re-telling of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale; this could have evolved into a wonderful series as well. Perhaps one day Ms.Lackey will find an opportunity to pursue further themes with this.
It's a wonderful book and one I enjoy re-readingfrom time to time.

5 out of 5 stars favorite book   May 8, 2008
This is my favorite book of all time. I love the beauty and the beast story and Mercedes Lackey does a fabulous ob reinventing/retelling the story in her magical way. I just wish I had gotten the book in hardcover.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome version of B&B   January 5, 2008
I am a big fan of Beauty and the Beast in general and I can honestly say that this is one of the best versions of the story that I have ever read! The historical setting of San Francisco is perfect, the characters are very interesting and it is very well written. The Beast is a magician and magic is taken very seriously - and the Beauty loves books and has a mind of her own. There are elements in the story that fans of other B&B versions will really appreciate. I know I did VERY much.

5 out of 5 stars The Fire Rose   November 15, 2007
I love Mercedes Lackey.
The Fire Rose is more like the Elemental Masters stories so if you have enjoyed those books you will welcome this story. Most enjoyable!
