Savor Me Slowly March 21, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mishka Le'Ace is more and less than she seems. Mishka is part human, part machine, part alien and part animal, which has relegated her throughout her life as a freak experiment with the same value as a dangerous pet. Mishka was created and raised in a lab by scientists whose only goal was the creation of a perfect soldier, and even though Mishka has never been given the opportunity to experience the softer side of life, she yearns to experience love. When Mishka is sent to rescue Alien Investigation and Removal agent Jaxon Tremain, she is ordered to use all means necessary to obtain the information he has regarding a new alien threat. However, as Mishka spends time with Jaxon, she discovers that he evokes in her feelings she never thought she would have...
Jaxon Tremain is a man of cold control, a necessity since he has learned that his careless remarks or thoughtless actions can have disastrous results. When he meets Mishka, he has to admit that she might be strong enough to take his sarcasm and biting wit in stride - but she might not survive loving him. Now Jaxon must work to eliminate the aliens who threaten the survival of humans and, at the same time, fight those who control Mishka in order to gain her for himself.
But as the race to counter the alien threat heats up, Mishka may be forced to do things that will pit her desire to survive against her love for Jaxon. Which will she choose and will she be able to live with her choice?
Savor Me Slowly is wonderful addition to the Alien Huntress series that will have you, by turns, on the edge of your seat from the suspense or panting for breath as a result of Jaxon and Mishka's hot, hot, hot sexual exploits. Gena Showalter did an amazing job of building a world so enthralling that it will completely capture your imagination and will have you glued to your seat turning the pages. Jaxon, at first glance, seems like a cold and calculating Alpha male; however, as we get to know him better, Jaxon reveals himself to be a fiery lover and an unflinchingly loyal man. Mishka will capture your heart with her battle to be more than she was created to be and become a woman worthy of love - all the while fighting the man who controls her and the negative expectations of the people around her. Mishka and Jaxon make the perfect pair in this action-packed romance each with their vulnerabilities to overcome while keeping the pace of the action and delivering an ending that will leave your romantic heart well satisfied! Get yourself Savor Me Slowly - it's a wonderful book, perfect for escaping reality as it creates a world so far removed from our own that you will be engrossed in the book from start to finish!

Absolutely wonderful! March 3, 2008 I absolutely love Gena Showalter. She is one of my favorite paranormal romance writers and there hasn't been a book yet that I have encountered and been disappointed. I enjoyed reading every page of Savor Me Slowly. Talk about Hot!Hot!Hot! The heat between Le' Ace and Jaxon had me longing for some heat of my own. I definitely recommend this installment of Alien Huntress and no doubt a Five Star rating all the way.
4.5 Stars - I wanted to Savor this Slowly, but it was so good I just gobbled it down! February 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
When Mishka L'Ace, the ultimate weapon a deadly combination of beautiful woman, machine and dangerous animal, is sent to save Alien Investigation and Removal Agent Jaxon Tremain, she finds him broken near death but still with such an undeniable core of determination and inner strength that she can't help but admire the battered `warrior'. But saving him isn't her only mission and she never fails a mission so she will do what ever it takes to pull the secrets from Jaxon where his previous captors have failed. Even on the edge of death Jaxon's reaction to Mishka is visceral and undeniable, and as he heals, he is powerfully drawn to this lethal yet vulnerable woman, and soon as he begins to gentle this sexy predator, his trust my be just what's needed to awaken the humanity her creators have so callously and surgically tried to destroy. But as Jaxon and Mishka join forces to combat a deadly threat to the Earth, friends and enemies alike will stop at nothing to tear Jaxon and Mishka apart.
There is no way that I can do justice to summarizing either the plot or the truly great pairing Gena Showalter has created here. At first it's almost like watching vipers court, both Mishka and Jaxon are intelligent and deadly. And with such a primal attraction between them, part of the fascination comes with how each allows the other past the their shields showing vulnerability to someone who could kill just as easily as kiss. Jaxon is violent and possessive under his soothing exterior and Mishka is the powerful woman he needs to bring out the wild alpha side that he's held tightly leashed out of guilt from harm he's caused in his selfish younger days. As Jaxon disarms Mishka with his words, actions and the sensual aura he exudes, Mishka comes to believe that she can be human and finally have a taste of love that she has seen but that always been denied her. I loved the intense passionate attraction between the Mishka and Jaxon which was culminated with such gentleness, especially since it's played against the violent protectiveness these two have for each other.
Savor Me Slowly is a great addition to Showalter's Alien Huntress series. Showalter's switch from the 1st person narrative of the previous books gifts us with a much more intimate view into both Jaxon and Mishka's feelings and the insight into their attraction and internal struggles really ups the emotional ante. When not focusing on the leads, Showalter makes excellent use of many of the characters she's already developed in the series. She begins to develop Dallas as he starts losing battle to stave off the changes that are beginning to transform him, and does a terrific job of working in the former leads from her past books Eden and Lucius, Mia and Kyrin, and even Devyn, good thing this guy is on their side. But even with bringing a bit of the previous books into the story, Showalter has ensured that Savor Me Slowly still works well enough as a standalone read that you could start here without having read the first two books. Of course then you'll be hooked and you'll have to go back and read Awaken Me Darklyand Enslave Me Sweetly (Alien Huntress, Book 2). That's what I'll be doing, seeing all my favorite characters from those books again made me want to go back and reread the previous books while waiting for Dallas' story - hope it's up next.
While Savor Me Slowly and the rest of the Alien Hunteresses are science fiction romances Showalter also has fun paranormal romances on her backlist some serious and some humorous. My favorites are her short in Mysteria (Berkley Sensation) anthology (which is a longer more satisfying version of a story she contributed to Bewitched, Bothered & BeVampyred), Playing With Fire and Heart of the Dragon (Atlantis, Book 1). Also I can't wait for Showalter's new series Lords of the Underworld The Darkest Night, The Darkest Kiss, The Darkest Pleasure and her short in Not That Innocent.
Excellent police procedural science fiction romance February 1, 2008 1 out of 11 found this review helpful
Mishka "Maria" Le'Ace is a half-breed undercover operative; Maria is part human, part killing machine and a life prisoner as her handler holds the one-button gizmo controlling a death chip inside her brain. Maria is sent to rescue Alien Investigation and Removal Agent Jaxon Tremain tortured by the Delenseans who demand he tell them what he knows about their enemies the Schon. She saves his life killing his capturers without much of a blink.
She is stunned by her human attraction to Jaxon as this has never happened to her before. However though he feels the same way towards Maria, he fears she cannot be trusted as she wants the same information that he refused to provide to the Delenseans although he admits her seductive torture will be harder to elude. As Maria helps Jaxon recover from his ordeal, her handler orders her to take care of business ASAP or else.
The latest Alien Hunter police procedural science fiction romance (see AWAKEN ME DARKLY and ENSLAVE ME SWEETLY) is a great thriller starring two strong individuals; whose strengths differ. She is physically dynamo while his is dedication and loyalty. Their forbidden relationship in which neither quite trusts the other enhances a sharp action-packed story line.
