| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review PageMaker 6.5 for Windows helps beginning and intermediate users grasp both the basic and finer points of this desktop publishing tool from Adobe Systems. Like other books in the Visual QuickStart series, this one features large screen shots and short step-by-step explanations of common procedures. In this case, you learn how to install the software; open, close, and otherwise manage files; become accustomed to the interface; adjust measurements, palettes, and more; and specify options in the Preferences dialog box. Next you really start using the package: you learn how to alter, connect, move, and rotate text blocks; run the spell checker and find/replace feature; format characters, paragraphs, and tabs; and create and alter styles. The next section focuses on graphics: it teaches you how to use PageMaker's drawing tools; insert, move, and manage images; insert images from Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator; use Photoshop filters; and work with color palettes and color models. You perfect your layout by using columns, flowing text, linked text blocks, and the story editor; managing objects with the Control Palette; using grids, guides, and distribution and alignment features; using layers and Master Pages; and adding a table of contents and index. Finally, you learn how to output your work, whether it's bound for a professional printer, the Web, or .PDF format. Appendices include a glossary, a review of what's new in PageMaker 6.5, and an overview of Extensis PageTools, a valuable PageMaker add-in. The Visual QuickStart book for PageMaker 6.5 for Macintosh covers the same topics as this Windows book.

Excellent book for first-time users February 11, 1999 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I had never used PageMaker before but had to learn it quickly in order to update a document. This book was exactly what I needed. I read the sections that I needed (about 70% of the book) in one day and by late afternoon I was updating my document. I especially like that the relevant pictures are right next to the text. I could follow along very easily without having to duplicate everything on my own computer screen. Highly recommended for first-time users that need to learn PM 6.5 quickly
Fast, fast fast fast September 15, 1998 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Visual quick start is probably the fastest way to learn Pagemaker and no costly like other books that are at least 37.00. This book can teach you about the interface of pagemaker the super speedy way, but I don't believe beginners should get this. It has little or no explanation about becoming a pagemaker. This book is strictly for learning on how to adjust to the pagemaker 6.5 interface. This book is intended, in my opinion, for people who has understanding of why pagemaker. Thanks and please look for my other reviews on adobe products

As usual, the Visual Quickstart Guide series are the best tutorial books for the beginners. Mr. Alspach's "PageMaker 6.5 for windows" is no exception.
