Product Description
When it comes to Photoshop(r), time is money, and this hot new book (from Scott Kelby and Felix Nelson, the team behind Photoshop User magazine) is all about speed, speed, and more speed! This book is all tips--there are no special effects: no flaming type, no glows, etc.--it's just packed cover-to-cover with nothing little-known tricks and tips that the pros use every day to get twice the work done in half the time. The idea behind this book comes from something that every great Photoshop book already has--those valuable little sidebar tips. We found that we often read those tips first, before we'd even actually read the chapter. The only problem is, there's just not enough of 'em. So we thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if there was a Photoshop book, and the whole book, cover-to-cover, was nothing but those great sidebar tips." That's what we've created in this book, which is all about the fun (and bragging rights) that come with knowing "all the inside tips." The reason why the book's slogan is "speed kills!," is because this is the book that will make you faster and more productive than ever so you can "smoke the competition."

Filler tips not Killer April 6, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Some of the tips are 'Killer', the rest are just 'Filler'. Sad, because Kelby/Nelson kept repeating some of the same tips in a different way. On the other hand, its well written & not boring with only one mistake that I could find, which was the 'Undocumented shortcut' to bring the fill dialog box up and instead it was the shortcut to lock transparent pixels/fill, but later-on he does give the right shortcut. I apparently knew most of the 'Killer Tips' already. If you don't know that the bracket keys [ ] increase/decrease your brush size, then this book will be very useful. But don't expect to be godly enlightened, because there is actually a tip in this book that says to use 'image > image size' to make your files smaller or larger in size, ah this reminds me of when he said, 'We wrote it to get free drugs', in the introduction. I don't think he was kidding! ;)
Good book, but Kelby's other ones are better. July 26, 2002 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Compared to Down & Dirty Tricks for Photoshop 6, and the newer Down & Dirty Tricks for Photoshop 7, I didn't find Killer Tips as good or as much fun. This may be an unfair statement as I got the D&D6 book at the same time and may have suffered from information overload. But these three books should be part of all Photoshop user libraries.
Key Word -- Tips, and lots of them March 9, 2002 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I purchased this book sight unseen on a friend's recommendation. When the book first came, my first impression was, "Oh boy, I spent money on one of these tip books." However, after reading the book, it turned out to be money well-spent.I've been a faithful Photoshop user for nearly 3 years now, and I have about 75 little stick em notes placed throughout this book. I even had my fair share of "Wow, no way" moments. Regardless of your level of experience with Photoshop, you will learn something new from this book's concise and well-written tips. If you're looking for "why's" please continue looking elsewhere. If you're looking for tutorials, keep looking. But if you're interested in increasing the speed and productivity from your everday use of the program, this book is definitely one for your shelf.
Loaded with Useful Information January 17, 2002 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book is oriented towards users who already have some knowledge about Photoshop but do not want to read the entire Photoshop Bible to get the most out of the program. It contains many clear and consice tips and tricks for helping the casual user maximize their time with Photoshop. If you like this book I also recommend another of Kelby's books called Photoshop 6 Down and Dirty Tricks.
As always, Thumbs Up December 29, 2001 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I own a digital printing shop in Tampa, Florida and I consider this book as well as all the Scott Kelby and Felix Nelson books and articles a must have in a creative department. My creative department crew have done amazing designs and digital prints with the help of this book. Like I mentioned before, this is a must have for every Photoshop user...
