Product Description No one has captured the affinity between people and horses better than Yann Arthus-Bertrand, revealing how closely the horse's destiny is linked to that of mankind and the ways in which man has fashioned horses in accordance with his needs. This majestic volume shows horses as they really are--lively, high-spirited, mettlesome, animated, prancing, supple, and even ethereal. In situ photographs portray the spirit and the soul of two hundred different horse breeds, from racehorse to workhorse to show horse, from Montana and Russia, central Asia and Argentina, Mongolia and Cameroon, and points ordinary and exotic in between. They range from the purebred Arabians, to the Lippizaner, star of the famous Spanish riding school in Vienna, to the American Appaloosa, to the sleek, patrician thoroughbred.
Accompanying text recounts the rich history of our centuriesold relationship with horses, and the role each breed has played on the world stage.

beautiful beyond compare!!! July 19, 2008 Do you like Munnings? Do you like Stubbs paintings? Then you will adore this book. The photos, taken around the world, are taken against a broad long well lit canvas. Some of the photos show the horses and riders or owners standing against the canvas behind which are snow-capped mountains or long low plains. It is an uplifting book. It will make you happy.
The lighting is varied giving rise to different moods, feelings, emotions. The horses are splendid.
Love it! July 13, 2008 I really love this book. It has gorgeous illustrations and amazing stories as well as a wealth of information about rare breeds of horses all over the world.
Horses by Yann Arthus-Bertrand...... May 23, 2008 For anyone who treasures the Horse. Interesting presentation and history of the breeds. A perfect coffee table book.
Beyond the stunning photos........... May 8, 2008 The magnificant photos speak for themselves and sold me on the book without my even realizing how wonderful the literary content is. Written as if it could be a sociology text, there is more interesting cultural information than in anything I've read in a long time. The history of the horse as we know it today is laid out in such a fasinating way that even those who may not love horses will come to admire the remarkable relationship they have with man. True, we have organized their strengths around our needs; however, this book captures the essence of their unique spirit and spiritual connection with man.
First Amazon purchase October 15, 2007 This was my first Amazon purchase and I was happy to find my item available. The transaction was simple, smooth and prompt confirmation. I was extremely impressed when the status of my order showed 2-3 weeks before I would receive the package and I ended up receiving it within the week. The book is a beautiful piece of art and wonderfully displayed on my counter with Remington bronze sculpture, however the outside corrugated shipping box had some small damage, hence the inside packaging tore a small piece on the book cover. I was still content with the transaction as a whole.
