Amazon.com Review This handy guide presents 24 one-hour lessons for teaching beginners how to use the new Adobe Photoshop 5 for Macintosh and Windows. The book first gives you a tour of the interface, teaching you how to open and save files and rotate, resize, and otherwise transform images. Next you get into trickier but more creative aspects of the package, using color modes and color models, color-adjustment tools, paint tools, layers, masks, and paths. You progress to learning to apply filters, work with type, apply special effects, use plug-ins, create composite images, repair black-and-white and color photos, and output your work to a printer and to the Web. Each lesson includes a clear, thorough discussion of the features at hand, quick usage tips, and step-by-step exercises. There are plenty of helpful screen shots and a list of keyboard shortcuts as well. A summary and quiz mark the end of each lesson, helping you assimilate the new material. If you need to quickly learn Photoshop's essential features and image-editing, -compositing, and -correcting techniques, give this book a close look. -- Kathleen Caster

Really Good Book! June 12, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I liked this the best of all the Photoshop books. It had the best pictures, and the best explanations, and I really feel like I can use the program the way I want.
Great basic intro. to Photoshop August 4, 1999 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I needed to learn the basics of Photoshop quickly in order to get my web site up and running, and this book did just that. It was clear and easy to understand, and I was able to apply my new knowledge instantly. No, this book will not turn you into a power user, but that's not what it sets out to do. If you want to get up and running quickly, with a very reasonably priced book, this is a great choice.
Great book for teaching the basics to a newcomer. June 27, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I knew nothing about Photoshop before I read this book. 3 weeks later, after I finished the book, I feel like a very comfortable beginner. I can sit down at the program and I whiz through the many features like a pro! A must buy book for anyone who wishes to learn the very basics. You go away with an understanding of the multitude of easy-to-use features in Photshop. From there, you can purchase another book for advanced lessons or simply enjoy what youve learned. I am so GLAD that I bought this book.
not enough detailed instruction for the new beginner May 13, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The lesson average was 45-60 minutes, the information was well presented, but as a brand new user - I needed to be presented with a very basic, detailed lesson from beginning to end. The end of the lesson failed to tell you how to use the knowledge you had just learned.
I liked it and you should read it ! January 29, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
PhotoShop 5 in 24 hours and a good book to start out with. It will tech you most of the basic stuff that you need to know.
