Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The book will introduce the beginning user to the next version of Photoshop, the world's most popular image editing application. It will use the beginner-friendly format developed for the previous Teach YourselfVISUALLY books-concise text combined with lots of conceptual illustrations and generously captioned screen shots.

The chapters will lead the reader through the steps involved in a typical image-editing project, from opening scanned photos and clip art, to manipulating selections and applying filters, to saving finished work for use in print or on the Web. This book will focus on the tools and features most relevant to what the average Photoshop beginner/intermediate wants to do, whether it's building graphics for a simple Web page, formatting clip art for a newsletter, or retouching photos from a digital camera.

4 out of 5 stars If you hate reading like I do, look no further!   December 22, 2002

Awesome colors in this book. However, sometimes I wonder if all of the features are explained here. However, if you are a beginner, get it! If not, look at the index before buying it.

4 out of 5 stars Best Book To Start Off With Using Photoshop   July 2, 2002

This is another one of my 5 Photoshop books that I bought for my Introductory course to the program. It helped me a great deal when I was starting out and needed to learn everything. The visuals are great. There isn't much text to bog you down. Everything is in full color. The one and only problem is that when you exhaust what this book can do for you, you will still need to learn a lot more in order to fully implement Photoshop. If you are a beginner, buy this book first and realize that you will have to buy another book as soon as you are done with it. You might also supplement this book adequately with online tutorials and Photoshop Magazine. If your goals are modest in Photoshop, then this book may do it all for you. My goals, being an artist and using it, were not modest.

5 out of 5 stars Great way to grasp what PhotoShop does!   January 8, 2002

With absolutely no experience with PhotoShop, I tried to read other books to teach it to myself. Especially with a graphics program, seeing it done sure beats reading about it--and this book does it well! Gave me the confidence to use the program.

5 out of 5 stars Great for beginners!   April 2, 2001

If you want to learn the basics of photoshop and do something and get results then this book is for you. I have had photoshop for quite awhile now but chose to use Paint Shop Pro and other programs because they seemed much easier. My old photoshop book (a Dummies Book) would bore or distract me by the time I got to the good stuff. I have learned more about Photoshop in the first few chapters than I have in trying to "read" other books. If you really need to know the ins and outs of Photoshop then maybe another book is better since this book has very little details in the whys of doing something. Most topics take up about two pages each. However, if you want to touch up and play with a few pictures you have scanned or whatever and you dont have time to read then this book is very helpful. This book also helped me better understand and use similar features in other photo editing programs.
