5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   November 25, 2007

A brilliant book and a must for those that appreciate fine photography. "Thank you" to Ms. Leibovitz for sharing these photographs, especially those of sensitivity.

5 out of 5 stars Annie, Annie, Annie...Annie!   November 24, 2007

First off, it is easy to kick Annie Leibowitz around. No one seems to think her pictures are "all that" or the mythology of Annie overpowers the images. At some point, I just don't care. Annie didn't set out to reinvent the genre of editorial photography, but she did.
She brought a sense of pageant and humanity to her work. She's as honest as one could hope her to be with this book. Yes, her commercial work is somewhat charmed so forth. She still takes chances and brings risk into her work. There is profound craft to her images.
I'll always have the time of day for this photographer. She's had a long run and I hope it continues to reveal and entertain. So, Annie, if you ever read this (insomnia, insecurity) you're one of the good ones. You also never paid me back that five bucks I loaned you in Paris.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Compliation   October 29, 2007
Such a talented photographer! This book captures excellent examples of her work. If you have the opportunity to see the exhibit at a museum - don't miss it!

3 out of 5 stars Pictures of fame and family   October 24, 2007
This book, as the title might imply to you, is about Leibovitz' life from 1990 to 2005. This does not mean though, that the book is limited to that. The focus shifts back and forth between her personal life and her career. The pictures are all large and vibrant. Many of them span a left and right page. There are some good portraits in here of: The White Stripes, Juliane Moore, Bruce Springsteen, Al Pacino & Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, and a lot of others too. There were a lot of portraits. Then breaking up sections of these portraits were sections of pictures taken in and of her own life including funerals, vacations, and childbirth. I personally was more interested in the portraits though. Those of you who are more along my lines of just wanting to see portraits, American Music is probably more of what you want. I'm waiting for mine now.

5 out of 5 stars Great photography book   September 17, 2007
I've been wanting this book for a while and to have found it here for under $75 I was excited and bought it immediately. A Photographer's Life: 1990-2005 by Annie Leibovitz mixes photos of famous faces and intimate photos of her family, close friends and a few landscapes. I really enjoyed all of the photos. The book is so big I have yet to get through the whole thing! It was well worth the money I am defiantly now a fan of Leibovitz.
