Finally a simple explanation of spotmetering for a beginner! June 17, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Bahman has finally simplified what I had thought to be a complicated process. Whenever I heard the phrase spotmetering, I always thought of Ansel Adams and thinking, "How am I supposed to know all of specifics that he mastered?" Well the specifics are easily at hand in Bahman's 166-page book. As an aspiring professional photographer, I always want to learn more. And just knowing how to get an image with a segmented or partial meter reading wasn't enough. Now I can ascend into perfect exposures by evaluating on my own. I haven't found anybody who can explain this procedure as accurately, concise and simplified as Bahman. Kudos Bahman and I can't wait for a next book. Keep up the great work!" -- Jerome A. This book really does clear up the confusion of metering. March 28, 1999 This book is a must read for anyone that is serious about taking good photographs. It clears up the mystery of obtaining the proper exposure by teaching you how to understanding what the camera's meter is telling you.
A must read for serious photographers March 8, 1999 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
When the casual shooter wants to improve on his technique, the first big hurdle is mastering exposure. This is where the real problems begin, since this is a deceiptively simple topic, and one usually all but skipped in most books about photography. The most advanced tool readily available to solve difficult exposure problems, and also the one requiring the most skill, is the on-camera spotmeter. This book succeds in providing a clear and thorough explanation of the topic (I find the 'trains' analogy quite effective), and goes on to suggest a number of practical rules to cope with difficult but often encountered situations (my favourite is the 'Moon 64' rule). The only minor quibble I feel relates to the usefulness of the 'cheat' sheets: I for one didn't find anything on the N90s I shouldn't have already known by reading the accompanying booklet, and don't think anyone interested in this kind of book wouldn't have a firm grasp on the workings of his SLR. All in all, a highly recommended reading for anyone serious about photography, beginner and advanced alike.
Easy! February 16, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book, I read it in one day and couldn't believe just how easy it is to use a spot meter! After reading all the other books out there and being totally confused by them, this book is a welcome change. I recommend it to anyone having trouble getting the hang of spot metering.
