A good source of info, but.... November 2, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this really is suited for photographers who work on assignment for commercial or editorial clients. I haven't even finished it but I'm impressed by the wealth of knowledge and information here: contracts, clauses, taxes, pricing.... The author is very opinionated on the subject of computers (he's a MAC man) and equipment (pro grade only and the more $$ spent, the better). The thing is, he shoots for maybe 1/2 hour, sometimes less at a time. But if you're a female wedding photographer, you might not be able to carry the latest oversized camera around for eight hours straight-esp w/ a fast lens attached. Ditto for some female photojournalists who've opted for lighter cameras (including some who shoot for NG) while keeping the good lenses. Bigger is not always necessarily better. That said, it really does give beginners a good look at what they need to think about down the road. I'd say that photogs who focus on events should look at books specifically geared toward those sorts of businesses, but this has something for everyone and is a good one to keep handy.
Not for the weekend warrior October 27, 2007 This book is definately for the professional and not mom & pop with a point and shoot that go see little Timmy play on Saturday. This will help you set up a business, full time or part time, and has a TON of great material that every pro photographer should know. If you're planning on running a business and PYA (protecting your assets) then this is a must have.

Photographer's bible May 25, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After I bought this book, I read it straight through without putting it down. This is a great book and you won't be disappointed. This book is written so well, that it has knowledge for the beginning photographer all the way through the experienced pro. Clearly the best photo business book I have ever read. John Harrington uses witt and examples to enforce his points. A must-have book for any serious photographer in the business. The book is up-to-date, so buy it soon.
Great source of information for Photographers May 12, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is amazing! I really recommend to other photographers out there as John Harrington touches on many crucial subjects that matters to anyone running a photographic business. There's depth to each topic and even shows real life examples and stories from his own life's experiences. Althought many topics are geared towards the photographic business, there are some that are almost applicable to business in general. I highly recommend this book.
