4 out of 5 stars Liked it better than the first book   June 22, 2008
I liked The Duke Next Door better than Desperately Seeking a Duke. Mostly because I liked the two main characters - Calder and Deirdre. They both had some baggage and worked their way through it. I didn't like Phoebe at all in the first book so I had a hard time finishing it. I thought Calder and Deirdre's story followed a nice progression and parts made me laugh and cry. I also thought the end was very satisfying. I mostly want to read the third book just to find out more about Calder and Deidre's continuing life.

3 out of 5 stars The best of the series?   June 12, 2008

I enjoyed this book for a light read. The heroine has what is equivalent to a school girl crush on the hero. She manages to convice him to marry her for convenience sake, only to be disappointed that he doesn't live up to her expectations.

Despite his many flaw she decides she want to make him love her anyway. Not really sure exactly why she thinks he's worth it. I didn't particularly care for this hero. Especially in his attempts to rescue the heroine. All of a sudden he becomes a highly inept person, after all this time of being so efficient.

Overall, I found this book to be average.

I am an loyal reader of historical romances .I just love the era anyways the book fell flat. I read the first book and it was ok ,but this one just really stinked it was just to drawn out for me ,and the hero was just to arrogant the only thing i liked about it was the butler

5 out of 5 stars terrific heiress bride series.   June 1, 2008
I had not previously read any Celeste Bradley books, enjoyed all three in the heiress bride series, The Duke next door wound up the series very well, with a few unexpected twists in the storyline. Each book I read left me wanting more, look forward to reading her spy series next. It's always nice to find a writer I am not familiar with, that way you don't have to have such a long time for the story's conclusions. I vote her books a very enjoyable read.

2 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the first book in the series.   May 9, 2008

I must say that this was a disappointing follow up to the first book in the series. There was very little chemistry between Calder and Deirdre. In addition they just kept making stupid decisions in their relationship.

Rafe and Phoebe's story was so much better.

I loved the interaction between Deirdre and Meggie, but it was not enough to save this book.

I hope the third book is up to par with the first one from this series.
