5 out of 5 stars Excellent series!   September 21, 2008
Purchased for 12-year-old son. It's always been difficult to get him to read, but he can't put these books down! I hope the series never ends.

5 out of 5 stars My son can't wait until book 5   September 18, 2008
4 out of 5 found this review helpful

Four books down and one to go :-( (Mr. Riordan, PLEASE consider writing more books in the series!!!)

This series has captured my son's interest and imagination unlike any other fiction series with the exception of the Magic Treehouse books. He is an 11-year old and despite being considered AG in reading skills, he would rather eat liver than read novels. My son's fifth grade teacher got him interested in the first book. After that, he had to have the whole set. He read all four books in about 1.5 weeks time -- usually reading over 100 pages a day -- even on school nights.

He thought this book was the best though the ending definitely leaves you hanging -- and waiting for Book 5.

The things that he likes best about the series:

1. Percy is a regular kid just like him who has his struggles in school.
2. He loves the Greek Mythology tie-ins
3. He loves the writing style and humor of the author
4. The stories don't take place in ancient times -- rather uses ancient stories in modern times.

Now my problem is what to get him reading next. He isn't interested in Harry Potter or most of the other popular fantasy collections. If any one has a suggestion on other series with the above characteristics, please let me know -- I would be eternally grateful!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and Thrilling   September 16, 2008
Book 4. All I can say is this book has to be the best one in the series so far. Rick Riordan really stepped it up with this book. As Percy grows older and more familiar with his powers, the monsters become stronger. This book is adventure-packed and hilarious. Though all the serious events happening in Percy's life are occurring, there are the funny moments. And, yet, Rick Riordan has put a new troublesome path in Percy's way with the hints of Annabeth and Percy possibly dating..... I can't wait for the next installment.

5 out of 5 stars A story that keeps growing   September 13, 2008
It's just another average day in the life of the son of Poseidon when Percy Jackson gets attacked at freshman orientation, causing yet another school to catch fire. Rick Riordan launches us on another adventure with Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, Grover, Niko, and even Rachel Elizabeth Dare (the mortal girl who can see through the magical mist the God's use to hide their world). Though the first three books of this series tended to be stocked with more stories of the Greek Gods, this book brings us from the learning stage to the doing stage. Percy is more comfortable with his world now, though there are always new surprises to be had, and he finds himself preparing for an inevitable battle. Friends become enemies, enemies become friends, in another thrilling adventure of young heroes. The quest for Pan goes on, for Grover, as Annabeth leads her first quest to stop Luke and his army of monsters from destroying the camp. The stakes are higher and the enemies more powerful, but the group of friends are determined to save their world from destruction. Even at the end of their journey, things look darker than before, but the journey itself has more or less prepared them for what is to come. It will not be long before Percy turns sixteen and the terrible prophecy begins. The story continues, and it brings the readers along in a journey that determines the fate of the mortal world. Fans of the series will not be disappointed and new readers are always welcome. This is, for me, the best book of the series so far.
