for a good heartfelt laugh August 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Though as candid and brilliantly inappropriate as her first collection of essays, 'Vodka' reaches past points of 'horizontal life' to focus more on love, family, and friendship. The end product is a rather remarkable collection of stories that are astoundinly funny, yet surprisingly heartfelt. Handler writes with a sincerity that cushions her bluntness. Wheather reading about being kicked half naked out of a London restauraunt, love scorn Peekapoos, or being dry-humped by an angry asian masseause, its certain you'll be in for laughs the whole way through. By the end of the collection, you'll realize the situations are only half the story. The real story is who is by your side to share them with.
Chelsea Has a New Fan August 2, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I feel like I've come late to the party that is Chelsea Handler, but better late than never. This collection of stories is in a word, hilarious. Chelsea is a natural storyteller and these pages go by so quickly I found myself looking for more when I reached page 264. She's original, irreverent, bawdy, gutsy and VERY funny.
It's hard to pick a favorite, but the story of boyfriend Mohammad and the Peekapoo (apparently a gay dog), and another that included a night with the drunken "midget" named Kimmy, had me laughing out loud and sharing snippets. There are no stinkers in the collection, each is funnier than the previous as you get to know her humor and her quirks, which yes--DO include a lot of vodka.
If you like the work of Laurie Notaro The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life or Sandra Tsing Loh A Year in Van Nuys you'll love the work of Chelsea Handler.

Not Just for the Girls... Funny for both genders! August 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this book on audio (unabridged and it was read by the author) for a long car ride. Wow! Once you get past her dry tone, my husband and I were laughing our butts off. She continually refers to her father as "Bitch Tits" which is a funny visual to keep in your brain while following the stories involving her dad. Of particular humor here was her retelling of her first DUI and going to county lockup... THAT was so hysterical! I think the book would be just as funny, but it was an added bonus to hear her do the storytelling.
It makes me laugh out loud! August 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This is the funniest book ever!! August 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is absolutely the funniest book that you will ever read! I love Chelsea Handler and I love her show as well but this book is by far her funniest stuff ever. There were so many good parts in the book it is hard to pick my favorite, but I would have to say when she got threw in jail was especially hilarious. This book seriously has tons of laugh-out loud moments and all I can say is if you have a sense of humor at all you will LOVE this book!
