5 out of 5 stars Simply The Best   February 29, 2008
After reading many books on landscape photography, this has become my all-time favorite. It's an great read chock full of practical advice from a world-class photographer. And it's filled with inspiring photos too. What else would you need?

5 out of 5 stars excellent, filled with practical details   February 27, 2008
If you want to take much better landscape photos and are willing to invest in some extra effort and equipment (good tripods, neutral density, and polarized filters), this has all of the tips you need - time of day, sample themes, sections on specialties, how to dress for cold weather, etc.

The only flaw with this book are the sample photos - most have been digitally overprocessed with cartoonish saturation levels. Maybe when they are usually reproduced, they don't look so fake, or maybe they sell like that. But you can factor that out. He knows what he's talking about.

I am a newbie in photography and this book has been very helpful. It has so many helpful tips and valuable recommendations without being cumbersome to read. I can't put it down, and find myself going back and forth chapters. A must have!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent advice, tips, inspiration   February 17, 2008
Great photography book with lots of useable tips. I'm sure I will be referring to it for years to come. Recommended!

3 out of 5 stars Great book, but....   February 13, 2008

This is a very good photography book. My 3-star rating is based on how well it works for me. The text is excellent, and so is the photography. But in a photography "how-to" book, I look to the examples for inspiration. Most of the photographs are taken in the American West. I live 2,000 miles from the American West. While the general and specific tips and techniques in the text are applicable to any landscape photography, the photographs don't illustrate how the techniques apply to my area, or how to solve any of the challenges of shooting in various areas.
If I was planning to shoot in the western states, this would be about the best book I could expect to find.
