Very useful information June 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been looking to buy Writer's Market for awhile. I was surprised with all of the inforamtion that is stored within it's pages. From Freelance writing to Greeting Card companies. Not to mention that there are other Market Books out there. If you are going to submitt poetry to be published, there is a seperate Market book just for poetry. I find this book very usful, and it will help me in the right dierection of where to send my manuscript.2008 Writer's Market2008 Novel & Short Story Writer's Market (Novel and Short Story Writer's Market)
On the Short List for Book References! June 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This resource guide is on the short list of desk references for writers. This includes people who write books, articles and more. It is thoroughly researched, comprehensive, extremely well organized and written, has fantastic resources and is full of great ideas.
The detail and accuracy of this book is amazing. For example, in the query letter section, good and bad examples are given to help you write the best query letter possible.
Topics include, but are not limited to: How much should I charge?, How to find (and Keep) the right agent, Script Agents, Book Publishers (the section is huge!), Playwriting and more.
This is an essential resource for any serious writer!

A Comprehensive Resource For All Writers June 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
PROS: One of the best resources for writers. It's well organized and shows the who's who of the publishing world.
CONS: It would help if there were more guidance on writing book proposals and query letters. The advice is there and it is helpful, but I would like more. However, I didn't feel it was the job of this book to get into that (there are other books that tackle that issue), so I'm still giving the book 5 stars.
CONCLUSION: If you want to write for magazines or you want to publish a good, this resource covers all your bases.
New one every year? June 2, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
It is probably the only resourse with so many entries, but many are like last year. The price was definately right. But I don't think I need one every year.
YOUR GUIDE TO GETTING PUBLISHED June 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Back in 1991, I was studying creative writing under a published author. The one thing we learned was to expect an average 70 rejections no matter if were beginners or seasoned pros. So if you write something, and you send it to be published, and it is rejected...DON'T GIVE UP!!! With that in mind let me say that this book is one of, if not THE most, respected publications in its field. There are literally over 1000 different publishers of various types of material in this huge book. Publishers of both fiction and nonfiction, publishers of books as well as magazine publishers, complete with addresses and in some cases, phone numbers, email addresses, and websites. This huge publication houses some of the most respected names in writing, which is another bonus of this book. You get "THE BIG BOYS", plus you get smaller publishers. Publishers of religious material, porn, poetry, short stories, novels, history, sports, hobbies, and much much more. Another bonus of this fine publication, is that it has tips for how to increase your chances of being published as well as notes some of the legal aspects of the art. My first two articles I had printed and PAID for, were the result of sending my material to publishers in this handy guide. So if you're looking for an publication that will greatly increase your chances of getting published, you need this long time established tool.
