5 out of 5 stars A must have if you are into photography or not   March 28, 2008

This book is a good book to go through whether or not you are a photographer. The stories that Lou tells are great. They make you laugh but also have a lesson and a point to each one. The photos are beyond amazing and I enjoyed all of them and the lessons they taught as you go through the book. I would recommend this to any reader whether you are an avid photographer or just a point and shot type of person.

I have worked in the photo industry as a professional photographer for over 17 years. Lou's book tells it like it is in an honest, straightforward and detailed way. He covers everything including important issues like estimating and pricing jobs, copyright ownership and how he has dealt with difficult clients. His writing style is witty and engaging which makes the book a really enjoyable read. This book should be required reading for anyone considering entering the field of commercial photography.

This book is exactly as it says on the cover: A straightforward guide to a complex industry. Lesko guides both the novice and the professional step by step through the navigation of this field in an insightful, lighthearted, accessible manner. For anyone who has an interest in working as a professional photographer, whether just starting out or making a career shift in the industry, or just looking for a fresh perspective, this book is a quick read and full of useful insights. He takes a very classy approach to a challenging business.

5 out of 5 stars Super helpful and fun to read!   January 24, 2008

I was honored to be asked by Lou to be a featured photographer in this book. When I read the finished product I was blown away by how much I enjoyed the book, how helpful it is to me and other photographers, and how well it is written. I would suggest any photographer buy the book to learn more about our industry. Plus, it's laced with incredible photos which hold my interest if I only have a minute to browse through it. Great book!!! Brie Childers

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have For Any Photographer   January 13, 2008

This book is a great guide on breaking into photography and making a profit on photos and shoots. It's also very entertaining! The author gives great advice on what art buyers are looking for, how to bid a job, how to operate a shoot, and how to come out positive in the end. He also has funny personal stories about avoiding the pitfalls. The part about usage licenses (making sure you are properly paid for commercial use) is phenomenal, but I wish he would have mentioned more about BlinkBid Software for photographers - it adds customized usage licenses for you. I would recommend this book and BlinkBid Software to anyone looking to start a photography business.
