Right-brain advice and inspiration June 22, 2008 At first glance, I had a hard time learning to see the beauty in the art that is industrial photography. When I first got this book in the mail, I looked through its pages and was disappointed, thinking "how can I make myself read this if I don't even like the pictures?" Coming from someone that loves impressionism, this shouldn't be hard to understand. But knowing George's writing already from the Luminous landscape site, I thought there must be something more to this book, and started reading. I'm so glad I did! The clear writing style kept me interested--and as a result a whole new way of making photographs has been revealed to me. He gives excellent advice and already my creative process has benefited from reading his book. This will forever be in my photographic library. I can't wait to re-read it when in need of inspiration and ideas.
As a side-note, I'm now hooked on the beauty and challenges of industrial photography. A whole new genre of photography has been opened up to me. I highly reccommend this book--its a gem!
disappointed... June 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
i wanted to like this book. i was hoping to gain some valuable insights. but it just didn't happen for me. i guess i'm just not sufficiently sophisticated to appreciate the author's vision. most of the photography in the book left me cold. i give the book high marks for production quality...everything about the book is first class. but the content left me uninspired.
Just what the Doctor ordered May 25, 2008 This is the perfect book for those who have technical competence but could use some help with their "eye. George does an excellent job of communicating his thought processes. It is not about camera control. It's about capturing ones vision. It is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Decent book to read during the winter while planning the next summer's shooting season... Lot's of grandpa-style advices that may or may not work depending on your style and interests - the book is centered around landscape, industrial and pretentiously abstract subjects - not really my cup of tea. Worth skimming through, but I am not sure I would put it on my night stand...
An outstanding pick for any general-interest library May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
TAKE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY TO THE NEXT LEVEL: FROM INSPIRATION TO IMAGE is for the photographer who wants to achieve a higher level of results in their work, and provides a series of essays representing a 'course in a book' and which were originally featured on the Luminous Landscape web site. These website writings have been expanded and updated for book format, new ones added, and discussions range from making stronger images and handling failure and setbacks to assessing a level for improvement, learning from other successful images, and identifying where to improve. An outstanding pick for any general-interest library catering to photographers at all levels and for art libraries as well.
