A fun read; format could use some improvements July 13, 2008 I like the writing style of Hungry Girl. It's been a lot of fun to read. I've only made 2 recipes so far; one was good; the other I need to try again. The problems may have been of my own making.
I do wish the recipes were written so the ingredient list went in the order used. That is a standard recipe writing format and makes it easy to check that you've used all the ingredients and added them at the appropriate time. Since overall these are easy and without a ton of ingredients, it is doable. If there is ever an HG2, I'd like to see that change made. If there is an HG2, I'll buy it too.
Chemical substitutes for natural foods July 12, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you enjoy chemical substitutes vs natural foods then this is the book for you. This book substitutes unnatural ingedients to lower caloric intake and doesn't take into account the affect on the body that man made chemical substitutions does to a body. Instead of Splenda for this and that, how about natural cane sugar? How about portion control instead of gluttony? How about ingesting what is whole and natural instead of what has been artificially created in a lab, that still has inconclusive evidnece of the affect it has on the human body? If your looking for a cook book that will give you short cuts to a healthier life style this isn't it. It is full of chemical substitutes. There should be a new ad campaign for Splenda. "Splenda the Tobacco of the New Millenium" Don't get me wrong. This isn't an attack on just Splenda. It is all of the artifical additives that are placed in foods these days. Try a more natural diet with your children. Watch how passive and more intelligent they become.
Hungry Girl July 12, 2008 Great book, bought 3 copies for friends, her website is the highlight of my day, realistic approach to finding foods that are good for you that satisfies even the toughest person.
Still Hungry July 10, 2008 I bought this book because of a recipe that I saw in a magazine. The recipe was for brownies made with pumpkin and I liked the idea of healthier brownies using real foods that are good for you. As it turned out most of the recipes throughout the book include artificial ingredients and sweeteners, not healthy foods like pumpkin and applesauce. So the book is okay, and I really did like the brownies, but if you are looking for a book with healthy, natural ingredients then you need to look elsewhere.
Hungry Girl Rocks!! July 9, 2008 This is such a great book! It has so many awesome recipes. I made the fudge and it was really good. I can't wait to try other recipes out of the book.
