5 out of 5 stars Virtuoso Performance   September 19, 2008

I read this book on a whim because of what a friend told me, having had no prior experience with this author, and I was astounded. First, Meyer takes a body snatching alien and makes her into a sympathetic character. No small fete, but she also does so without trying to completely excuse the alien of all fault. Next, she creates a conflict that seems unresolveable, but without making either side absolutely evil or absolutely good. Much like the real world. Finally, she creates a most engaging love... quadrangle(?) that seems impossible to satisfy with all parties fulfilled... Then she fullfills it. This book is in my top five favorite books of all time, and definitely tops my list for this year. It takes some careful reading to get going, but the truly worthwhile is worth working for. If I have any complaint at all about this book, it is that I think it would've been more aptly titled "The Soul."

5 out of 5 stars What a great book!   September 18, 2008

I read all the twlight books. An I wasn't sure about this one. I have to say I thought it was great. Just as good as her other books. The characters were wounderful. You really got to know the main characters. I sure hope she writes a sequel to it.

4 out of 5 stars from a different point of view   September 18, 2008
I read this book because I liked the author. Its about parasitic beings who come to Earth and use humans as their hosts. What makes it interesting is that it is from the parasites view. It makes you think. My 11 year old son picked it up and read it too. I didn't think he would finish it. Boy was I wrong. He read it in a week!

4 out of 5 stars Worth all 600 pages!   September 17, 2008
I was drawn into this book right away and remained facinated and intrigued until about page 200 where for the next 200 pages I found myself getting a bit bored. My friends who had all read the book encouraged me to keep going and I am so glad that I did because by about page 400 the book picked up again and was fabulous to the last page!

4 out of 5 stars A little slow to start, but WOW at the end!   September 16, 2008
I'm not a YA reader, but a true adult fan of Stephenie Meyer's writing. I couldn't wait to read THE HOST after finishing the Twilight Series. I found the beginning of the book was quite slow, but I also thought it might be that way since I've never read a Sci-Fi novel before. Also chalked it up to being so emotionally connected with the Twilight series. Once I got through the first several chapters (necessary for the set up of the story) I found my self back in Stephenie's world again and enjoying every minute of it. Make sure you have a stash of tissues with you, as you may need them as you continue your journey with these incredible characters.

LOVED THE BOOK! Can't wait for the next!
