This book kept me laughing. Chelsea Handler is a great comedian and writer. I will recommend this book to everyone, I already have all my co-workers reading it and they all love it.

5 out of 5 stars The funniest book I ever read   May 20, 2008
I've never read a funnier book..I went into the bookstore with the intention of flipping through it, and I came out having read the entire thing, with a completely altered perception of what exactly 'funny' meant. I laughed for four hours straight. From the opening paragraph, where Handler describes her attempts at trying to free her butt from a wedgie with her hands covered in mittens, to scenarios involving little people, to her brief stint in jail, I was enthralled at how interesting her life was. Handler is a character out of her own life...she was funnier in writing than she was in person (and for anyone who has seen her show, that comment shouldn't be taken lightly). When I tried to explain to my friends just how funny the book was, I would start laughing uncontrollably. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. (And although this is unrelated, Handler describes her stories with such well-aimed diction that the reader begins to question if she really is a college drop out, as she claims). BUY IT. YOU WILL LAUGH LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER LAUGHED BEFORE.

3 out of 5 stars Good, But Nothing New From Handler   May 19, 2008
Like most of the reviewers, I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately it's not in the editing stages anymore, so there is no room left for potential.

Even though the stories were comical, they were a little far-fetched and overdone. I feel like Chelsea detailed extremely similiar experiences numerous times before, and I was hoping this book would showcase new material, but it barely did.

Even though Handler's vulger descriptions of the characters she encounters are comical, her word choices aren't enough to show the reader who each characer is. Chelsea barely gives more than names to describe her female characters during the birthday scene, which makes the chapter confusing, un-funny, and a complete waste of time. Chelsea comes across as overly self-indulgent, and while her indulgence is funny in person, it misses the mark in this book.

On a positive note, I definitely don't think the book was a complete waste of time. I would not, however, rush out to buy it. It was entertaining, and I am being overly critical because I think Chelsea Handler is brilliant and I was expecting A LOT from this book.
