Gorgeous And Moving Photos December 17, 2007 Wow,I love it and I'm not even Cuban. I do however have a Cuban son-in-law and this seemed the perfect gift for him. I haven't given it to him yet but I've read it and I just love it. He will enjoy going through the pages in search of pictures of his late famous Cuban grandfather who was a well known entertainer. I can't wait to give it to him.
Cienfuegos Native Son December 12, 2007 I liked the book very much and enjoyed the photos and the comments but was greatly surprised to find Cienfuegos, my hometown, in the province of Camaguey!!! Before Castro, Cienfuegos was in the provice of Las Villas. The Castro government changed that and made Cienfuegos a province by itself, but never Camaguey.
I Was Cuba is Extraordinary December 8, 2007 I Was Cuba: Treasures from the Ramiro Fernandez Collection As a photographer I have long collected antique portraits. I admire the artistry of the photographer as I imagine (or wonder about) the life of the subject(s). In I Was Cuba, Ramiro Fernandez provides us with the artistry of many photographers: portrait, landscape, photojournalist, etc. As importantly, he weaves these together to tell the story of I Was Cuba. The people, the play, the pageantry, the politics all come alive. One can spend minutes, or hours, in the past of this now-mysterious country and return tomorrow to discover anew yet another element of Cuba's rich history. It is a book that honors the past without becoming mournful, nosstalgic, or illusional. I highly recommend I Was Cuba.
Beautiful Cuban images prior to Castro's disastrous revolution December 7, 2007 A wonderful pictorial book on a Cuba that has now passed.
Having not been able to remember the country I was born in, this beautiful book has been able to fill some precious gaps!
I heartily recommend this as a holiday gift for someone you know who may remember the images pictured here.
