An excellent example of what my grandmother used to say......you are what you eat. wonderful insight on how the rest of the world eats and how disappointing our western diets have become.
Wonderful Look at the World August 15, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you enjoy the Material World series, you will love this book. It is a fantastic look at something that we all share, food, and how it can be so different around the world. Like traveling without leaving your couch.
Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime. July 31, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hungry Planet.I loved seeing the photos of each family representing a country on this great planet. It made me think about how much I pay for food during the week, and what my family eats. It also showed that the countries that ate more vegetables and less processed foods seemed to have less diseases and spent less.I also liked to read how members in the families helped each other out with daily chores. I especially found the essay titled, Baked, Boiled, Roasted and Fried interesting. It was about how humans are the only species on Earth that cooks their food and that humans are not carnivores, but cookivores. I highly recommend it and look forward to reading other books by the this author and photographer team.

My name is Tyrone Demery and i am the younger son from the Revis family. doing the book was an amazing and lucky experience. You really never understand how much food you really eat until it's ALL layed out on your kitchen counter.
Worth every penny! May 20, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Menzel is groundbreaking and stands alone in his quest to show the world to his readers. Each of his photographs tell a unique story, leaving the reader to make his or her own interpretations. The book is also well documented with facts and statistics about each country's food consumption habits. I appreciate how Menzel views each culture through the lens of a specific theme, such as food, possessions, and bug eating!
