Product Description Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

worth your while July 19, 2008 Amazing book!! It puts some of the most difficult theological concepts into a beautiful story. There is one statement that many will misinterpret to think that the author is promoting pluralism, but if you listen to Young in an interview you'll know that his doctrine is sound. Beware of this book if you think God will fit into a perfect little box that you are comfortable with.
Thinly disguised religious advertising. July 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Majority of this book pertains to conversations with God espousing religious principals. this would be fine if the synopsis indicated this as opposed to pretending to be about a kidnapping whici appears to be thinly applied in order to sell the book to a broader marketplace. I found the writing amateurish.
A ray of sun thru the storm July 18, 2008 When you've lost a child it is devastating. When another person is responsible for it, the anger is compounded. The why's, what if's, I should have been able to protect my child...these are all things that you wonder, then the biggest...WHY God, why...The Shack gives us hope. Hope that all God has promised us is happening. Jesus is with our children and us always..I highly recommend The Shack...I believe it is GOD inspired.
Well Written July 18, 2008 In a time where fact based fiction (Think DaVinci Code) is very popular, I found it refreshing that the author was up front about this story and the characters being fiction. I read this book in two days. If you are looking for something to push your thoughts about God and Jesus to a new perspective, this might be for you. I have struggled with the concepts of organized religion taking the place of relationship with God, and while this book didn't answer any questions- it's fiction- it pushed me to consider alternatives. well written
Awesome! July 18, 2008 Any time a book makes me think, I like it. This allegory gave me a chance to explore my daily walk with God, and how much He loves us all! Truly a book to read again and again!
