Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This book captures the essence of an important chapter in television history: coverage of the origins of the Emergency!, a dramatic series significant beyond entertainment. Emergency! followed the daily lives of a pair of Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters/paramedics, along with their colleagues at Station 51 and the emergency room staff of Rampart General Hospital. The book offers a behind the scenes look, packed with interviews from many of the medical and fire department technical advisors, cast members, writers, and other production crew members that worked on the series.

3 out of 5 stars Fun, but oddly edited.   October 14, 2008
Contains a lot of information I could care less about, and some information I really wish had been expanded on. Could have really used a more complete episode guide... for example, the guide entry for the episode The Mouse was begging for information on staging the plane crash fire that was not included.

Also, appears to have been edited by a 2-year-old, with lots of typos, errors, pov changes and sentence fragments (rather like this review, LOL).

But still a fun read. As a firefighter/paramedic who was inspired by this show as a kid, I'm thrilled to read anything about it.

4 out of 5 stars Behind the Scenes of early EMS   September 17, 2008
I expected another tired this is how we put together the show book on a show I watched in High School. What I found was a History of the Early EMS program from Miami Fire to LA City and County in the 1970's, and how one TV show broought what was happening on the streets of these cities to the people who controled the monies that would put more out there. This tale tells how Paramedic became a househould word and CPR was something that every child knew of and knew where to get a class in. The fate of the show and the equipment as well as the actors as this show finally comes out on DVD is very good timing. A very enjoyable read.

5 out of 5 stars Very informative, not a picture book.   August 10, 2008
Emergency!: Behind the Scene
This is a very interesting, informative book. If you are looking for a picture book with light reading, this will probably not be your "cup of tea." I enjoyed it!

3 out of 5 stars Emergency! Behind the Scene   July 21, 2008
Although interesting, I would have enjoyed more of a "Where Are They Now? kind of thing. Way too much emphasis on the trucks, directors and such and less on the actors. Enjoyable if you are a really big buff of the show.

4 out of 5 stars Emergency! Behind the scene   July 14, 2008
As a long time fan I enjoyed the book. It had a lot of info that went way beyond what I expected, BUT........ It failed to have MANY facts about the show that seemed at least to me more important. The book failed to cover the opening's theme history/changes, had very little on the sets used to represent Station 51 & Rampart at Universal. Failed to talk about when and why some of the station were filmed at the real Station 127 vs the set of Station 51 at Universal. It did not mention the set changes on the Rampart set through the shows run. There was also some mistakes on some shows. States Chet never took the engineers test when in fact he took it with Roy. Had very little history on Squad 51 during the show such as some cosmetic changes that took place on the Squad in 75/76 season.
