Stories for Children Magazine 5 Star Review June 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I truly haven't given a second thought to Dinosaurs since I was a Kindergartener going to the Museum of Natural History in NYC way back in the dark ages, albeit not as long ago as when these creatures roamed the earth! I remember seeing those dinosaur bones towering two stories high - very impressive when you are a five-year-old. Well, here I am, well into my dotage, and Alphabet of Dinosaurs appears on my desk for review. I couldn't believe how many dinosaurs there are, (never dreamed there were enough for each letter of the alphabet) and what interesting characteristics each dinosaur possessed!
The very gifted author, Barbie Heit Schwaeber, wrote each dinosaur's story in 4 lines of rhyming prose plus the name of the dinosaur is pronounced for your child: Ex - H is for Hypsilophodon (HIP-sil-LOW-foe-don) followed by this text: "See these plant-eating dinosaurs? They had teeth inside each cheek. Those teeth were small and leaf-shaped And in front they had a beak."
Soundprints has paired up with the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History to produce this book, which has undergone a curatorial review by the Museum's staff to present your child with the best book possible for learning. The accurate illustrations are so interesting since there are so many different kinds of dinosaurs out there to study! Tucked into the front hardcover of the book is a Read-Along Musical CD for your child to aid in learning. There is also a very detailed kid-friendly Glossary included at the end of the book as well as a removable poster containing all the dinosaurs covered in this book. This is a must-have for any child who loves dinosaurs and really wants to learn everything there is to know about them. I loved this book!
