Product Description Gerald Hoberman's "London" is the very quintessence of this great city, a surprising and delightful portrait. It is a celebration and an important record of England's capital at the dawn of the new millennium. Many of the stunning photographs in this book were shot from a helicopter, and show London as it has never been seen before. Readers will encounter an eye-popping city; outgoing and splendidly green, yet urban at the same time. When coupled with John Andrew's fascinating text, this book is a must for anyone who has ever been to London, or dreamed of visiting. The 161 color photographs featured in this mesmerizing volume have been spot U.V. varnished so that they seem to literally "pop" off the page.

I am about to purchase this book. I saw the HARDBOUND version in a book store and was very impressed. The paperback version is only 36 pages so I imagine it can't be of the same quality. Each of the pictures in the HB version appears as an actual photo -- glossy with bright colors. I compared this to "London from the air" by Hawkes and that book is very well done. However, this book has a good mix of close ups, land-based shots and shots from the air. I just spent 9 months in London and this book will be our "coffee table" memory of the trip.
Great Book! March 19, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What a beautiful book. I was given this as a present for my birthday and I love it. It has pages of photo-quality pictures which take you right to the streets of London. Its a great book if your planning a trip to England this summer-the pictures inspire you to stroll London's streets. The author has captured the magic of London in all its diversity. A wonderful gift for you or someone you love.
