A Classic of a previous age January 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I first read this I had no idea that he was starting a type of writing that would catch on. Reading :"Archimedes' Revenge" by Paul Hoffman, I realized that he was using the same techniques that Martin Gardner had. One of Hoffman's examples is the same Möbius band in a new context. The perfect numbers are also in both books as well as a section on strange tiling effects. That the Harter -Heighway dragon was introduced here as well makes the book a classic of the last age of mathematical innocence, before mathematical genealogy took over.
