Great book, fun too read to your kids August 27, 2008 While my girls, ages 2 and 3, don't request this book as much as Chugga Chugga Choo Choo, by the same author, they do enjoy reading it.
The lively rhymes in the book tell the story of a dump truck that is stuck in the road, and the passersby who try to help the truck get out of the hole. In the meantime, some sneaky gophers are emptying the load out of the back of the dump truck.
As an elementary education major, I am impressed with the repetitive phrasing that gives my girls a chance to "read" along, and even to "read" the book to each other. Although my girls don't yet have the higher level thinking skills to enable them to see some of the humor that is shown in the pictures (a constant stream of gophers removing bones from the dump truck, the driver's assistant busy at the pay phone calling a tow truck while the driver flags down vehicle after vehicle in a frantic attempt to get his truck out of the pot hole), they enjoy hearing the story.
The illustrations are brightly colored and have many details, allowing my girls to discover something new each time we read the book.
I recommend this book, and I recommend this author.
Very cute, fun to read. July 2, 2008 My daughter was a little bit afraid of big trucks, I though this book would help a little bit, and it did. It is a cute story, I don't know that it is worded the best that it could be, but the illustrations are cute and overall it is a good book!
Grandson loves it June 24, 2008 My almost 3 yr old grandson loves this book. We have read it many times. He knows most of it by heart. Often he will say "Round and round, the wheels they roll. Round and round into a hole!" This is the start of a game with his Pappy. Pappy will then say the beginning of another line from the book such as "No need to panic!" and our grandson will reply back with "Here come a tow truck with a mechanic." Geat fun!
It's OK - not as good as Chugga Chugga Choo Choo June 11, 2008 I bought this expecting the same rhytmic verse as Chugga Chugga Choo Choo which we really enjoy reading. This book fell short and it is very choppy to read. However, the art is nice.
Great book! June 9, 2008 This is a great book. My son loves the truck and all the helpful vehicles that come along. I also love the artwork!
