Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

5 out of 5 stars God loves the individual   July 24, 2008

I love the book. My view of it is that God will do anything or appear in any way to tell us He Love us. This was the only way He could start to communicate with Mack. Awesome. Forget correct theology and catch the Love God has for each one of us.

5 out of 5 stars Best story I have run into   July 23, 2008

The book introduced me to an image of God no one had ever talked to me about before. It made more sense to my heart then all the higher theology I have ever been exposed to. Had to get the audio so I can listen while driving, as I am sure the police frown on reading while driving.

book, one you can't put down it is so good.

5 out of 5 stars Great Fiction   July 23, 2008

The author wrote this book for his 6 children, and it was intended for them, not the general public. I find it delightful; compelling me to think about what my relationship with God is like, and how I relate to my world. It is not theology, it is fiction, and the author states that.

So read it with the knowledge that it is what it is: fiction. And enjoy Papa God, Jesus, and the delightful Spirit. Cry with Max as he grapples with his awful pain. Celebrate his victory. Laugh with his simple relationship with his creator. Enjoy the warm feelings of love found in the God of the universe.

Some need to get over theology and just enjoy the fiction!
