Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Amazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won't surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie's memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body's longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it's unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story's end leaves the door open for a sequel--or another series. --Mari Malcolm

Product Description
The author of the Twilight series of # 1 bestsellers delivers her brilliant first novel for adults: a gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake.

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

5 out of 5 stars Transported out of my everyday..   May 16, 2008
I read the first 3 chapters and simply couldn't put this book down.. I'm not going to do a review or a dissection of the book, read on if that's what you're looking for.
I will compare the writing of this author to a few authors who transport me out of my everyday.. where the books are so well written that I go back for more. Authors like Jacqueline Carey, Sharon Shinn, Diane Gabaldon, or Robin Mckinley.. If you appreciate these authors you most likely will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT!   May 16, 2008
I was drawn into this book after about page 80. It was everything I've ever dreamed of in a science fiction book, but it's actually a love story that's very complicated. I don't want to give anything away, but Stephenie is the most talented writer I've ever had the pleasure of reading. May just send Steph's parents a Thank You letter!

5 out of 5 stars She Hits Another One Out of the Park!   May 16, 2008
I was already a big Stephenie Meyer fan before reading The Host. The Host has made me a die-hard fan. While her writing style may not be the most sophisticated, her characters are so *real* that you can't help but care deeply about what happens to them. Just like I love Bella and Edward from the Twilight books, I truly began to love Wanda and Ian in this book. My favorite book ever is Little Women, because Louisa May Alcott does a superb job of making the reader feel as if you're really living a lifetime with the characters; that's how Meyer makes you feel about her characters. The plot is exciting, and the ending is extremely satisfying. I know now that I will read anything and everything that Stephenie Meyer ever publishes!

4 out of 5 stars Another amaing Stephenie Meyer book   May 16, 2008
First of all, I must say that I LOVE Stephenie Meyer's books. I am 30 years old with 5 kids and I can't get enough of them. I have a slight depression now that i've read the last book she has out right now and i have to wait to August for another. She is an amazing writer. They are all such easy reads, even with kids and distractions around you.
I had extremely high hopes for The Host given that I adored the twilight books as much as i did. It really lived up to my expectations. It was captivating and thought provoking. The love stories in her books makes your stomach flutter with butterflies. You end up loving the characters of the book.
If you are thinking about getting this book then for sure GET IT. You will not be disapointed.
Beautiful book, beautiful author, great story. I loved it as i do all her books.

2 out of 5 stars I wanted to love it   May 15, 2008
I was so excited to get read this book. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. It was so slow in the beginning. I kept reading because it is Stephenie Meyer after all. Nothing really ever happened. The bad guys weren't bad. The raids weren't eventful. The love story was lame. I never cared about the main character. I loved the Twilight series and have already pre-ordered Breaking Dawn. I just don't think that this book was her best.
