| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Wiregrass Region of southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia, and north Floridanamed for the perennial grass that covered the long-leaf pine forest flooris a product of the railroads that arose with the New South. All kinds of railroads served all kinds of purposes in the Wiregrass. Shortlines and even temporary tracks moved timber and pine resin from forest to mill a century agothey move raw materials and manufactured goods between ports and factories today. Longer lines created business links between Wiregrass towns and the cities of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and the world. Some of these roads lasted only a few years; others merged into complex systems connecting the Wiregrass Region with the rest of the world in a way early settlers could not even imagine.

RAILROADING HISTORY IN SOUTH ALABAMA. February 19, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great historical picture book, of the stations, trains, people, and more, around the Southern portion of East Alabama. Many priceless moments of railroading in the area described, along with a smattering of local history. A very nice addition to the railroaders library. A great reference work, especially for those wishing to model some of the facilities located in the South.
