Not what I had in mind March 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This review applies for volume 1 as well as volume 2. I agree with the reviewer of volume 1 that this is more like a magazine than a book. Both "volumes" are only 50 pages each. Maybe if they would have combined the two the end product would be more valuable. The photography (all B&W) has no rhymne or reason to it meaning there is no chronological order or seperation of the various railroads covered.
My chief complaint is an omission. Where is the Chicago and Northwestern? The C&NW was a dominate player in Chicago what with being the first railroad in Chicago, having its own terminal where 3 seperate lines converge bringing comuter and long distance passengers to the city. The Proviso freight yard, at one time, the largest in the world. Nothing. In total there is one C&NW photo. This would be like doing a book on railroading in New York and omitting the New York Central.
