Vastly improved examination of recent and upcoming national events March 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since Jon Meacham, author of Franklin and Winston: An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship and American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, took over Newsweek one year ago, the magazine has veered away from its turn toward soft news and entertainment. The tribute to William F. Buckley was excellent, and beat out all the conservative news magazines. Especially impressive is that Mr. Buckley made the cover, something detractors of the 'liberal media' would not have expected. George Will's editorial at the end of every other issue beats out the equivalent on TIME and U.S. News. Belief Watch is a unique section highlighting current events from a religious perspective, which may include Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and New Religious Movements. Evan Thomas, Jonathan Alter, Howard Fineman and Fareed Zakaria are among the very best political journalists in the country. Newsweek's book and film reviews are generally spot on. Certainly there is dearth in coverage of foreign affairs, but that can be said for all magazines except The Economist, a British publication. At a very reasonable price of $20 per year, it is difficult to imagine a newsmagazine in today's competitive, media-saturated climate doing better than this.
Awesome and for this price?Cant be beat. March 3, 2008 I browse through news magazines all the time usually not buying them. I came across newsweek selling for $20.00. i bought it right then and there. some reviewers are correct it does get a little peopleie but i dont mind i actually enjoy it. i think its a great magazine and for this price it cant be beat. also ive bought several magazines from amazon and i have never had a problem.
WISH I COULD January 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's a month since I placed the order and I have not gotten a single copy. So the only thing I can tell you is I would not order magazines through amazon unless you don't mind the wait.
Essential January 2, 2008 Subscribing to Newsweek is an incredible deal. Individual issues are $4.95 each. So you can buy 4 off the rack for the price of approx. 50 mailed to your door! And I think this magazine is practically essential for anyone living in America today. Educate yourself about what's going on in the world. Don't just let things happen TO you and AROUND you. Be informed. Have opinions.
