Back to Basics TEM500 Egg-and-Muffin 2-Slice Toaster and Egg Poacher October 2, 2008 I have to admit that I really like this gadget. I'm not one to go to too much trouble making breakfast but with this thing I can have a good breakfast without much fuss. You can get creative with what you put in with the egg. I put hot peppers and cheese with it and the results are pretty great. The cost was reasonable and it works well. Clean up is a breeze.
Egg Sandwich Maker October 1, 2008 We totally enjoy our Back to Basics egg sandwich maker. There are six of us at home, so making our own breakfast sandwiches is much more affordable than buying them in a restaurant. The machine is well programmed so that the sandwiches come out wonderful every time.
great morning! October 1, 2008 Love it! I'm not a morning person and have always sacrificed breakfast for a few more minutes of sleep. This device allows me to make an egg sandwich as easily as instant oatmeal, all while I get ready for work. Even though a fast food egg sandwich is cheap enough, the time I save not having to wait in line for one is priceless plus I can control the ingredients...egg beaters, whole grain english muffins, low fat cheese, fresh herbs, whatever I choose. While I'm not a fan of poached eggs, I found that adding a little extra water cooks the yolk completely. I love the way the toast is always ready at the same time the egg is. The egg did stick in the pan a bit when I used just cooking spray but with a drop of olive oil added, it slid right out and made cleanup a breeze. This is an affordable must have for everyone like me who loves breakfast but hates getting up early to cook it.
neat idea - executes pretty well September 30, 2008 OK, be forewarned if you haven't been already - the steam gets hot and the first time you go to take the egg out, you will burn yourself unless you remember these words. Be careful. It'll only happen once, but still it hurts.
Second, it makes pretty good toast and pretty good eggs, but the poached eggs take some practice. For kids, it's easy to add ingredients and make a little omlet and everyone can have their own fillings.
Overall, an excellent item.
Love this ridiculous gadget September 30, 2008 I love this gadget. Ridiculous, but when I saw it I wanted it. I've had for a month. Great poached eggs. Quick hard-boiled eggs. Nicely steamed Canadian bacon. I should have bought the double, as its too long a wait if you have multiple kids lining up, and wanting seconds. But for one or two sandwiches, great. Downside, the toaster slots are small, so if want to use as your main toaster for bread, that's a problem, altho we do just that. Can't fit bagels in without slicing. Top of normal bread doesn't go down quite far enough. Perfect size for english muffins, HOWEVER the top of toaster gets VERY hot, so don't let very young children use this--also the poaching element gets VERY hot, so keep young children away from that as well. One other negative, the bread and poached eggs are timed to be done at the same time, so english muffin pops up when egg is done, but there is a delay on bread before they pop it out, so it is not as hot as I'd like it for buttering... I think they're doing this to counteract how HOT the top of the toater is when it finishes toasting, which I understand, but still. So it has shortcomings, but even with them, I love it. Until I find that perfect egg poacher for multiple eggs, this is it.
