5 out of 5 stars A wonderful children's book   June 28, 2007

Obviously the previous reviewer expected an adult's illustrated history book. That it is not. Its a wonderful children's book with lots of thoughtful and painstaking details. My kids look at the pictures and imagine what it would be like to be in the station.

2 out of 5 stars A Child's Intro to Penn Station   June 26, 2007

This book presents naively simple drawings and elementary text. If one knows nothing about Penn Station, this will advance your knowledge a little. Serious readers should look elsewhere.

In the 1800's railroads was big business. You could travel almost anywhere by train in the US, except to New York. The Pennsylvania railroad changed this with the building of Penn Station. The station was high class. In the 1950's more highways were built and rail travel declined. The Pennsylvania railroad company was losing money and decided to make the station smaller and move it underground. Then it started losing more money so they destroyed the Penn Station after wards people became mad, they started New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.
