Graphics and Gameplay August 14, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just a normal person I am. Not a professional at this at all on reviews. I do really like this game a lot. After the very long install and all the updates I jumped right in and chose my character who was a Guardian. Very fun and strong character to play for a new player wanting to kick some tooshy when starting out. The game control is very fun and I love the new styles of attacks and all too. The graphics are just downright beautiful and everyone that I have played with on there has been very fun and friendly. The only down side I have to this game is merely just technical. The forums prove it too. You can go into the forums and read the plethora of gripes and complaints on everyones issues. I won't go into great detail other than saying that the imaging stuttered on my screen during game play. Needless to say I tried everything that anyone offered to resolve it and ended up canceling my account in less than a month of game play. The game has many bugs and still needs a lot of work. There have been many people buying newer systems thinking it would resolve the issue and they are still having problems. If you really want to play this game try the trial before you buy it just to be sure it is for you. Again it is a fun game and beautiful graphics. I've only suspended my account until I know everything is finally out of the beta stage and fully finished and working fine without as many complaints. I do hope this helped someone out there. Good luck on your gaming adventures.
Just wanted to update my notes here. Would rate it 4 stars now. I recently built a new PC and now the game plays flawless. Have not ran into any technical difficulties yet. Not saying to get the exact same specifications on your computer that I have. But this is what I built:
EVGA nForce 680i SLI mobo EVGA nvidia GeForce GTX 260 graphics 2 Gigs DDR2 6400 memory 700 Watt Power Supply (of course) Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor
AOC - MMORPG Disaster August 9, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
AOC is the worst MMORPG I've have ever played in terms of the following items, in order or severity:
1) MASSIVE memory leak issue leading to constant lag by all but those that have way more processing power than required for the game. 2) Inability or refusal of Funcom (maker of AOC) to deal with the massive memory leak issue, instead focusing on ridiculous items to fix each week. 3) Horrible and lengthly list of game bugs, many many quests are broken, items don't work, crafting system in shambles. 4) PvP completely non-functional. "PvP" servers should be renamed "ganking" & PvE servers should be renamed "non-ganking" since this is the ONLY difference between the 2 types. The only PvP system that works is a premade scenario that is initiated and completed manually by someone advertising constantly in open chat for people to please join a premade group. If you enter a pug que for pvp minigames you can wait 9 hours or more for your turn. 5) Serious lack of raid content at game end. I hear lvl 80's all the time advertising "looking for anything to do" - desperation has set in. 6) Major patches occuring once a week now (at game release they had to have two patches a week). Most patches require more patches to fix the poorly thought out patches. 7) RAPIDLY declining membership to AOC make group play all but impossible. 8) Appears the beta testers were as drunk AND stupid as the game designers. 9) No auto-attack style or "Stick" command places melee class characters at a SEVERE disadvantage to casting type classes. Melee chain combos are extremely difficult to make work in a pvp situation. 10) Even the AOC core "fan boys" have been silent lately with the non-stop complaints about the severe problems with AOC being expressed daily in open channel chat.
Save yourself a headache and go outside and enjoy the real world for the next month while we await the release of Warhammer, since there is nothing worth a crap out there currently in the MMORPG world to play in......
Age of Incomplete August 8, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
no dx10 yet, maybe in a few months, siege battles do not work/exist, everything is buggy, there is no skill as damage is based on items/gold farming. What you can afford determines your damage. There are constant spams from gold farmers. Very little to do. Low population so there are few people to do it with.
1-20 is great, awesome, spectacular, after that the game is a joke
Pretty, but not all there. August 6, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The game is great, up untill lvl 40, then classes become gimpped. There is no end game content, and each patch breaks the game even more.
The combo system is great, PvP could be fun, but the class imbalance ruins it (I mean, the tank class with the most hp and armor should not be one shotting other soldier classes, or even squishies for that matter), unless your a guardion or a healer, PvP is one sided.
The client has been riddled with issues like memory leaks and instability. Don't expect to see the wonderful grafixs unless you have a really good computer. Although advertised with DX10, the game currently only works on DX9, and has issues with SLi set up cards, and ATI cards. after 40, the story ends, and the grind begines.
Does not live up to the hype August 5, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Age of Conan isn't exactly a 'bad' game, but it certainly does not live up to the hype which surrounded it before the release. There are bugs, lack of content, balance issues and patches that often do not make sense.
Worth getting the game if you are looking for something a bit different and don't mind waiting months or even years for a fully 'polished' version.
