The General Motors EMD E-units were America's most common passenger locomotives from 1945 through 1970, and B&O was the only railroad that owned all variants from the 1937 prototype EA through the final E-9s. The beautiful Art Deco E-units were the first streamlined passenger locomotives able to be used independently with other locomotives. They were widely used by many railroads, including the B&O whose classy blue, black, grey and gold E-units headed such famous trains as the Washington to Chicago Capitol Limited and the Washington to New York Royal Blue.
