| Customer Reviews: Well written, clear directions, up to date guide by rail May 8, 2010 J. George (Austin, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book when investigating rail options for a family vacation in Europe. I thought it was well done. I liked the specific instructions for rail stations and the information to purchase ahead of time over the web, which saved us a great deal of money. It also should have mentioned that the earlier you buy tickets the cheaper they are for many rail systems (we bought for Thalys). The side trip info and how do them without a car was also useful.
Europe - in detail April 2, 2010 Melvin Oliver (Columbia, MO USA) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
The comprehensive travel guide - Europe by Eurail 2010 - is an essential item for planning a trip in Europe. I cannot wait to take the trip and report back on what the book has revealed. When trying to book a vacation from afar without having to be in an organized tour, local information is essential. It appears that this book does just that. It allowed me to plan a vacation around train travel and stay in hotels outside of the major tourist areas without loosing any of the convenience or proximity to those things we wish to explore and experience. The proof will be in the pudding but this has given us a reason to be excited about an upcoming adventure.
Useful But Incomplete February 11, 2010 Jiten V. Ruparel (Columbus, Ohio USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
For the neophyte European train traveller, this is a good book. For an experienced and adventerous traveller, it comes up short. For example the coverage of Prague and Budapest is negligible. The guide could have given names, prices and ratings of sleeping accomodations close to the train stations. It did not tell us what the price range for train supllements for fast trains (Thalys, Eurostar etc) are , nor the price range for overnight sleepers on trains ( such as from Amsterdam to Copenhagen that we will be taking.
The online train timings on Rail Europe's web site is far more compelete.
